How do I run a successful design contest?

The key to a successful design contest is active collaboration. While the designers will most certainly work to collaborate with you, there are a few things that you can do to get the absolute most out of the design contest experience!

Below are 5 tips to help you run a successful design contest:

1.  Give designers feedback

Staying active, and responding to designers’ questions and design attempts, are the most important elements of a successful design contest.

Log into your 99designs account and view the contest at least once a day. While you review the new designs, you should provide feedback and interact with designers. By giving the designs a star rating, commenting on the designs, and eliminating the designs that aren’t what you want.

2.  As you review designs, think about updating your contest brief

It’s important to provide a very clear brief, so if designers aren't quite hitting the mark, you may want to revise your brief. You can edit this directly on your contest page.

3.  Invite designers to your contest

Another way to help increase the number of entries that you receive is to be proactive by finding designers through our Designer Discovery page and inviting designers whose design style and skills match with your project to participate in it.

4. Build Relationships

Running a design contest isn't just about getting the right design, it's about meeting the right designers. While a designer might not be the winner in your design contest, they might be able to design for you in the future via 1-to-1 Projects.

5.  Guarantee the prize for your contest

The most talented designers in our community are much more likely to enter a contest which is guaranteed and offers an attractive prize.
