How to create a business card that complies with VistaPrint's design requirements?

Business cards are one of the easiest ways your client can make a memorable first impression, and your client just ordered VistaPrint business cards. Here’s everything you need to dazzle them with a VistaPrint ready to print file.

Size and specifications

Bleed Area:

  • 91.77 x 53.6 mm
  • 3.61 x 2.11 in
  • 1083 x 633 px

If you’ve got a background colour or pattern, make sure it extends a bit beyond the actual size of the card. That way, you’ll never end up with white borders, even if the cards are cut slightly off centre.

Trim Size:

  • 88.9 x 50.8 mm
  • 3.50 x 2.00 in
  • 1050 x 600 px

We do our absolute best to make sure the client’s cards are centred and uniform but be sure to read about the safe printing area. Please note that the process of trimming is automated, therefore the trim will happen between the bleed line and the trim line with a deviation of 3mm.

Safe Printing Area:

  • 85.4 x 47.3 mm
  • 3.36 x 1.86 in
  • 1008 x 558 px

You probably have any important text or design elements within this area, which isn’t much smaller than the actual size of the card. To guarantee nothing gets cut off, keep everything inside this box.

VistaPrint business card printing specifications & best practices

  • Vista prints in CMYK averages, (small deviations might occur)
  • Prevent use of frames on a business card, as they might look uneven after trimming due to the automated trimming process
  • QR codes have an advisable size of at least 0.8 x 0.8 inches
  • Font size not smaller than 8pt.
  • Burgundy, teal, aqua marine and turquoise are colors that present issues quite often during printing.
  • Please use only true black

Uploading the correct file for ready-to-print

Once your client has approved the final design, send them all of the design files. Here’s what they need:

  • A layered, editable source file of the final design (AI, PSD, EPS or INDD) in which the fonts are not outlined
  • A print-ready PDF file with all the fonts outlined
  • All web preview images (JPEG or PNG)
  • A link to purchase any commercial fonts used in the design
  • Make sure all files are saved in the CMYK color mode and 300dpi resolution.
