At 99designs, quality and trust within our design community are of the utmost importance. As a way to motivate new and beginner designers to improve their skill sets, we have set limits on contest participation.
This limitation will be based on how well designers perform on the following criteria:
- Conceptual thought
- Technical execution
- Knowledge of design principles
- Proper use of stock images
New designers are limited by default until we assess their quality.
Beginner designers have been reviewed and show a basic level of our criteria mentioned above (i.e. conceptual thought, technical execution, etc.). Note: Time is not a factor.
Although we keep in mind things like wins and repeat clients, this is ultimately based on designers' overall design quality and how well you adhere to 99designs’ site policies including concept originality, code of conduct and stock image/clip art.
The current limit for new and beginner designers is 14 contests in any 28 day period. Each of these 14 contests are on rolling counter, meaning they don't all "reset" at once. It may help to think in terms of 14 open "slots". 28 days after you have used one of those slots it will become available again. This method is used to avoid a rush at the end of a calendar month.
We hope this will encourage designers to spend more time and thought on each of their designs, work more comprehensively with clients and take more pride in the work they submit. As their designs improve over time (think: being a finalist, wins, repeat clients, likes, etc), we will increase the amount of contests designers are able to enter.
Admins will review all designs a designer has ever uploaded, (including designs from private contests) and the designer’s account history when determining whether to remove the 14 contest limit.
Please review our Contest Limitation Information page in our Resource Center for more information on how to apply to have your contest limitation removed.
